10. Lanikai Pillboxes via Ka’iwa Ridge Trail

This 0.9-mile out-and-back trail near Kailua, Oahu, offers a moderately challenging route, typically completed in about 40 minutes. The trail is open year-round and offers a picturesque view of both the mountains and the ocean, making it a hotspot for hiking enthusiasts across the island.

9. Puʻu O Hulu Trail (Pink Pillbox)

Between the ocean and the mountains lies the Puʻu O Hulu Trail. Though the path can get narrow at some parts, it’s nothing dangerous. Hikers should prepare themselves accordingly for a hot, dry climate on this hike.

8. Moanalua/Kamananui Valley Trail

Although this hike is considered challenging, it’s also one of the rewarding. too. The area is popular for birding, hiking, and mountain biking and is the perfect scenic spot year-round. Keep in mind that dogs are welcome on this trail, but they must be on a leash.

7. Mount Olomana Trail

Please note that this trail is not for inexperienced hikers. It’s considered a highly challenging hike and can be truly perilous—especially in the rain. 6. ʻAiea Loop Trail

This trail is a great loop for the whole family. With great views of the Halawa Valley and the southern coastline of Oahu, this roughly 3-hour trail is the perfect way to spend an afternoon any time of the year.

5. Kuliʻouʻou Ridge Trail

For all the dog parents out there, your pup will love this one! The Kuliʻouʻou Ridge Trail is not only dog-friendly but also features some areas where your furry friends can be off-leash. It is important to note, however, that due to the trail’s steep and occasionally slippery conditions, hikers are advised to be prepared for muddy terrain.

4. Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail

This short, uphill trail along the sea cliffs leads to an observation deck and lighthouse—not to mention some truly breathtaking views and whale lookouts! Though the trail is paved, it offers minimal shade, so hikers will want to make sure they bring lots of water on this adventure.

3. Mānoa Falls Trail

Get ready for a tropical Hawaiian rainforest experience when embarking on the Mānoa Falls Trail! You’ll even get a chance to see scene locations from Jurassic Park and Lost. Do note that this area does get rainy, so check the weather before going and be sure to wear proper footwear!

2. Koko Crater Tramway to Kokohead Lookout

Though this trail is steep and doesn’t offer much shade, the panoramic views are worth the journey. We’ll warn you now that there is a “bridge” section of the trail with no ground underneath; however, there is also a bypass if that’s not quite your cup of tea.

1. Diamond Head Crater (Lēʻahi) Summit Trail

The Diamond Head Crater (Lēʻahi) Summit Trail is a favorite on Oahu. The hike starts in the middle of the Diamond Head volcanic crater and climbs 500 feet up the side to the top of the rim. Don’t worry, though—the volcano has been dormant for 150,000 years. If you’re looking for a hike that’s perfect for everyone and adorns postcard-worthy views, this is the one!
